What are you worth? Hint, it's so much more than you think

This has been on my mind this week. What do you feel you’re worth? I’m not just talking about pay (which will NEVER match our value). I’m talking about all of the other things that contribute to our self-worth. 
I’ve been hearing this from people from teachers, to therapists, to support staff, to caregivers like you. We feel undervalued. We feel overburdened. We feel we’re not being heard. Our thoughts, feelings, concerns, and values seem to be lesser than those around us. 
I’m here to tell you all of that matters. YOU matter.
You are worth being heard. You are worth being taken care of. You are worth so much more than you think.
Here are some things you can do to show yourself some love:
  • take care of your own health needs. Seriously. If you’re not well, your loved one won’t be well either.
  • practice saying “no” and mean it. “Just say no” is more than a war on drugs slogan. It can really save us from ourselves.
  • find support. This could be a group, a coach, a friend, a therapist, a confidant, a Facebook group, or any positive and supportive entity.
  • invest in yourself. People feel like paying for “luxuries” like haircuts, respite, daycare, housekeeping, lawn maintenance, and other costs as excessive, but in all honesty, investing in you and your peace of mind can be worth way more than what it may cost.
  • remember that you can’t fill from an empty cup. If you are depleted, you’re less effective as a caregiver. Make sure that you develop a habit of finding something that fills your soul so you can keep caring for your loved one. 
  • remember that you are worth so much more than you think. Put notes on your mirrors, set alarms on your phone to remind you, find and write affirmations to fuel your day, find and save memes or quotes that buoy you up, watch silly pet videos, ANYTHING that reminds you of this and keeps your head above water.
